I have recently had the check charging system message pop up in my message center. It comes on then goes back off. The last few days a few of the dash lights will come on and off and speedometer and RPM will stop working but will come back on. I’ve had the alternator checked and it’s fine and battery is about 8 months old. Any suggestions on what needs to be replaced?

 

When mine did this, it was the alternator. How old is the alt on your truck?

 

I honestly don’t know how old the alternator is but I’ve had it checked and it is good.

 

OK....but these trucks are very finicky about what brand alternators work on them. If I were in your shoes I would be replacing it with a Motorcraft, sized correctly for it.

Did you have it checked while the error message was active?

Alternators can be intermittent. If you don't catch it while the fault is active, you'll be misled that the thing is good.
