Default Charging system light intermittent

Morning all,
What to check next? I have an intermittent battery light coming on. Replaced alternator. Have not replaced battery yet. Getting 12+ volts on battery, 14.2 volts when running. Think a blown fuse would not be intermittent. Any ideas?

Check for loose or corroded connections at the battery, or loose or slipping belt. If they're good, get battery and alternator (new one may have fajult) checked at an auto parts store.

FWIW,
I had my Motorcraft alternator checked at multiple parts stores and also a rebuilder, nobody found any problems. Got another alternator (Motorcraft) from U-pull yard and installed, my occasional (flickering) charging light went away. Motorcraft alternators are finicky and aftermarket (unless Motorcraft) installed into Ford products are often problematic

it is the voltage regulator that is built into the alternator. Our year trucks 04-08 are very picky and if not tested under a load will not show the problem. return the aftermarket alt and get a motorcraft reman. Problem solved!

  • WOW. I haven't heard of that before. No wonder you and others say the alternators are finicky.
As a asside, I successfully replaced the bearings in my trucks original alternator a couple of years ago. But I broke the brushes during dissembly. So had to replace the combination brushes and regulator unit too. Just saying because replacing it (Total Power Parts 14058 Regulator) has lasted over two years. So at least this aftermarket regulator is good .
