Default Changing to full synthetic?

Truck is a 2006, has 180k miles, has always had oil changed at the dealer every 5k with there regular motorcraft oil. Was the daily driver, so oil changed every 3 months due to mileage.

Now I have a new car, and the truck mileage is cut in half per year, in the summer it barely moves(maybe drive it once every 2 weeks for 5 miles). It will be the daily driver only in winter.

I am thinking because the oil change interval will be about a year now(because of lack of driving), it would be smart to switch to full synthetic Mobil 1 and just change the oil every fall(once a year change).

Is there any bad effects of changing to full synthetic on a 2006 with 180k miles, that has always had dino oil?

Shouldn't be a problem... I don't see why you just don't stay with motorcraft synthetic blend and change it twice a year depending on mileage. You just want to keep the moisture out while its sitting. No matter what oil you use its gonna sit and condensation will happen.

Personally, I would keep using the same oil. They have been using Motorcraft synthetic blend anyway.

I was thinking of synthetic because I thought it lasts a lot longer as well as better with sticking to metal parts for infrequent driving?

Your saying changing twice a year with dino is better than once a year with Mobil 1? Let's say the truck drives 500 miles in the summer, and 4000 in the winter. I would change to full synthetic in the fall. I like the once a year change because it's easier though............

Motorcraft synthetic blend is not plain old Dino oil.. but, its your money and truck. to answer your question it wont hurt anything to switch. Mobil one makes an Annual protection.. says one year or 20K miles.

Stick with the motorcraft syn blend. I don’t commute far to work and my truck gets very few miles put on it these days. I change my oil every 10-12 months which works out to be 3000 miles.

if you're going to still use the dealership, why not stick with what brung you???...the Motorcraft synthetic blend should be fine and I'd follow the intervals those on here recommend but if you are doing the oil changes...you can find full synthetic on sale (even Mobil 1...with rebates) along with a Motorcraft FL802S filter and have the peace of mind you are looking for...
