Can cam phasers seize?
Hello all. I have a 2005 f150 super cab with around 115000 miles on it. I have been suffering through the cam phaser noise thats all to common with these trucks for about a year and a half now and now my problem has gotten worse. About a year and a half ago I went thru a spell where I didnt change my oil in about 10000 miles and also had a slow leak and ran out about two quarts. My engine started running rough and i took it in and the dealer informed me that I trashed my phasers. Ive done a few engine flushes and it has gotten no better. I was quoted $2000 to repair that i didnt have so I figured i would just be better at oil changes and live with it. I have had the occasional miss at around 1200-1500 rpms but nothing to big. Last week it started missing bad in the same range and i was also due for an oil change so I took it to my mechanic. He ran a bunch of tests and replaced my spark plugs and flushed the engine again and it still didnt fix it. He tested all of my electrical and vacuum and they all check out. He told me that the cam phasers are probably seized and will need replacing. He switched solenoids from one side to the other and nothing changes. I cant afford to have him do the repair so i am going to tackle it myself but before i do i want to get others advice as to if this is really the problem and where can i find parts? The dealership quoted me $370 per side for just the phasers. Any help would be appreciated.
