I thought when the cam phasers went bad the engine sounded like a diesel or a loud knock/ticking. I have an 08 f150 5.4 and it started sputtering and hesitating, felt like i was driving over rumble strips, complete loss of power. Was told it is a cam phaser by dealership.

 

The cam phaser TSB only applies to the 04-05. Could be the Variable Cam Timing solenoids. Are there any codes?

 

The check engine light is on so i assume there is a code/codes. I didnt ask, was told the cam phaser, about 1 week to fix.

 

Could still be phasers though.

 

Yeah, you've got some codes then, did they tell you what they are?

Are you under warranty? If not, I'd make sure it's the correct diagnosis before pulling the trigger on a $1500 service.

 

I am still under warranty, so i am covered. They didnt tell me what the codes were, i didnt ask. I have good faith in the dealership i took my truck to. I am a bit dissapointed, this is the second f150 i have had in this body style and right around the 30k mark, in both trucks i had something big go. The last one, which was an 05 the throttle body went, it left me stranded on the side of the road. I take good care of my vehicles and treat them like my baby, dissapointed.
