Cam Phaser and Timing Chain replacement.
Alright, I've been through the stickied thread below this as well as a few other threads on the subject, but between people just doing phasers, or just doing the chains, tensioners, etc.. its leaving me with some questions.
I am currently in the process of doing my timing chains, guides, tensioners, phasers, vct solennoid and such, and what I am curious about is whether or not anybody typically removes the rocker arms that the manual suggest removing when doing this job. When people replace just the phasers, it seems like you grab the cam with vice grips to keep from rotating and allow you to torque plus 90, and don't do anything with removing the rockers and such which is the books procedure for timing chain replacement. In the threads that cover both, I haven't found any mention of what the majority does for this topic. Do you guys still grab the cam with vice grips while timing and torqing the phase bolts or does anyone use the cam tool? Remove the stuff as procedure in the book?
Sorry I am on my phone typing this so if there are a lot of run on sentences or bad grammer, I apologize.
One more question, does anyone have specs on the cam tool? I would like to make one. Thanks!
