Default Cam phaser question

I've been reading a bit about this cam phaser issue and need to know if there is a reason to be concerned yet. I have an '06 F-150 5.4L V8 with 26K miles. It really isn't making the "diesel" engine sound yet. I have a friend with the exact same truck with 180K on his and sounds like a diesel. I guess I have 3 questions...1) If mine isn't making the sounds yet should I have it looked into anyway? 2) Is my friends truck in danger of having any major issues if he doesn't have them changed out? 3) How many of you with similar trucks have changed out the cam phasers? Thx!

210,000 miles, and they are noisy, but the truck still runs.

Every day that you are vertical is a good day !

They won't do any damage really. Its possible but unlikly. I wouldn't worry about it untill you get a bunch of codes for them and it won't idle or run good.

Only had mine about 6 weeks, 05 lariat 4x4 with the treacherous 5.4 (laughter) and it has 109k on it, idles like a very quiet diesel, quits above about 1k rpms, shoot it occasionally has a light knock like somebody tapping on a tin can, which scared the out of me first time I heard it, then came here and learned its just the lash adjusters. Book even says "do not be alarmed if your engine sometimes knocks lightly". The injectors rattle like crazy when its cold.

BUT I "think" most of the WONDERFUL design attributes are pretty much in the 04-05 models.

The point, as stated above, unless the computer starts kicking trouble codes, which it WILL at a hint of a problem, drive it drive it drive it.....I AM!
