BE CAREFUL. If I understand your meaning - "the filtering element filters all the time with or without a valve", this is one where I got major EGG ON MY FACE. If you are saying NO oil filter will allow un-filtered oil to go around the filter element --- you should read this: https://www.f150forum.com/f4/oil-fil...record-441939/ and look at several oil filter manufacturer websites. I understand the 'anti drain back' function, but I guess oil filter engineers feel dirty oil is better than NO OIL if a filter element becomes completely clogged up. (I guess, faced with that decision, I might agree with them after all)..

The M340HV is a high volume pump, the 360 is higher pressure pump. Either one is more than enough for the 5.4 as the max pressure either pump can put out depends entirely on the engine, not so much the pump itself. Volume is what is most important here and both the 340HV and 360HV will put out the same volume. Only difference in the two pumps are the pressure release spring rates.

^spot on. the 360HV isn't going to do it any more good than the 340HV

Thank you for everyone's comments!

Prior to having my engine rebuilt at 276K, I replaced my cam phasers (OEM) but used the Cloyes timing kit along with new lifters/rollers (OEM) and a Melling 360 at 210K. BIG mistake! The Cloyes timing kit tensioners failed and shredded my engine. Pieces of plastic chain guides plugged my pickup, the chains flopped so bad it cut grooves into oil pump and timing cover. Metal was everywhere, My heads were destroyed.

So on this last rebuild I used only OEM parts except the Melling 340HV. I had my block rebuilt and had to buy reman heads from a company out of Texas. Ford had national shortage of reman heads. The moral of my story is only to use OEM.

Now I have a knock from my OEM phasers at 298K and Ford won't warranty without any codes. I don't have any. I've decided against the lockouts for now and will just deal with it.

Thanks,

Ken

Just a note with lockouts: they reduce higher end power just to put a psychological band-aid on that does nothing to fix the actual problem.

On my timing job, I used Melling parts (cam phasers, VCT solenoids, chains, chain guides, metal tensioners, M340HV), Ford OEM rollers, EngineTech lash adjusters (I wanted to use Melling parts on those, but that would cost at least twice as much as what I paid for Ford OEM rollers and ET lash adjusters). No problems after 3000 miles so far.

I'm wishing I put in the metal tensioners. Mine are good right now. I've got the valve covers off and can feel the chains but man oh man....

That sucks, maybe it’s the pin. Are you running 5W-20? Try 5W-30 since it’s recommended anyway.

Nothing at all. Nice and tight. I just know these plastic ones will go out long before the metal ones would.
