just bought a 2004 f150 xl 2wheel 4.6L

air conditioning works good.turn ***** 1 and 2,nothing.3 and 4 work.my stepdads f150 has the same issue but only 2 and 4 will work,not 1 and 3.how do i go about fixing this?

If you are talking about the fan speed switch, you probably need a new fan speed resistor, Its mounted in the fan housing and I think you access it through the the glove box opening.
