Compressor Runs get's up to 40ish psi on the gauge, then the clutch disengages and this happens every 6-7 seconds it will get up the pressure and then turn off. Tried adding freon i'm unsure of what else to do to trouble shoot this thing. is there a common problem with that?

It's probably got a leak and is shutting off because pressure isn't up to spec or because it can't maintain it up to spec.

the pressure switch is on there to shut down compressor and prevent damage in the event that a leak is present so that the compressor doesn't run out of oil. Now, if there is a leak it could be lines, 0 rings, evaporator, condenser etc. normally they will charge with a dye that will help them locate leak. It's probably a leak and it probably won't be a bad repair unless it's inside cabin which may make it more difficult to replace part. I would take it to good AC shop and avoid the dealer. But yes it is very likely just a leak somewhere.

I just had my compressor replaced, it was leaking big time, wish I hadn't wasted bucks adding r134 hoping that would fix it..
