Buying used, high mileage

Buying used, high mileage
I love the 2004 and up Supercrews. There's one for sale at a dealership near me that seems like a great deal, except for the 160k miles on the odometer. Everyone I hear talk about f-150's says to expect to get 200k+ without trouble, but I wonder how much it's worth to start off that high in the first place. Am I just asking for repair bills in my near future?
To clarify, the truck I'm looking at is a 2005 supercrew, 4x4, power everything, leather. Asking $11,000.

Ford, much?
I wouldn't pay that for a high miles truck. Anything over 150k they start having failures of semi-common wear components such as wheel bearings, steering components, driveline issues. You need to keep a few grand for replacing those when you get it. Having to replace those is not an issue as long as you have not spent the money already overpaying for the truck knowing these are all worn.

Be patient, there are hundreds of these for sale. Don't rush.. and find one with around 120,000 mi . They can be had for about $12,000. Good luck.
P.s. if you feel really strongly about that particular truck then just buy it and enjoy.

I would never pay $11,000 for that truck unless they have put a new motor in it with the annoying cam phaser issues fixed thats in all the 04-05 f150. I bought my 04 supercrew loaded with 190,000 miles for $7,000 last October and Im having to put a new engine in it now.

I bought my 05 FX4 super crew with 160,000 in October 2012. I paid $10,000 and have only replaced rotors and pads (myself), and tires (on order).
Look the truck over and if tires are bald or low tread ask for new ones. Same with pads and rotors or plugs. Negotiate with them. You have the power to walk away if they wont deal. Just say " The tires look a little worn. Put on a new set and we have a deal." You can do that with anything that looks worn or might have to be replaced soon.
You have NOTHING to lose by asking and trying to negotiate.

If you can add about $4-5k and get a truck with 50-70k miles. Seems well worth it to me. I see 4x4 supercrews around here with 50-70k miles priced at 15-17k

I just bought mine, a 2008 with 275000 kms on it, xlt screw 4x4 6ft. box and new 20's with new tire, in mint shape other than the mileage for 8000.00 so they are out there for less.

I would say you. Can get them down a grand or two. I just got my xlt 06 with 98 k miles. I had them do the plugs and all the fluids and filters for under 12. Plus another 600 cash toward new tires of my choice.
So you can deal with them for sure. Especially with that many miles. But if you really like it to for it. If its been well cared for it could be worth it.
