agree with you on that too. old truck was a 99 cummins with an auto and it always had problems, and the truck itself isnt great either. i like the motor just not everything around it haha

I must be confused by the posted towing guide, because it looks like the maximum capacity for an F150 is 9,900 lbs. I have a 2005 Scab 5.4 4x4 with the 3.73 rear end, thus I could tow a 9,300 lbs trailer, right? So why is everyone telling him to go for the Superduty?

I was torn between the F250 and F150 for a long time before buying mine. Also, notice that the same configuration of F250 (5.4, 4x4, 3.73) is rated at 9,200 lbs trailer weight, 100 lbs LESS than the F150.

Don't get me wrong if I could justify the Diesel I would in a heartbeat. I love the unreal amount of torque they produce.

Better brakes, heavier suspension, heavier frame, less trailer bob, less sway, better ride under load etc. There are many reasons people are pushing the 250. If the OP is going to be towing this trailer alot he will be replacing rotors and ball joints fairly often. The 150 will be nicer around town when not pulling the trailer though.

If you are pulling upwards of 4 tons for any amount of time you will want to go 3/4 ton and diesel. under that load the engine is strained the tranny is strained your rear suspension is strained and you are drinking fuel. a efficient diesel will net much better towing economy under such a heavy load. If you are going to use the truck as a DD and only need to tow that big of a trailer a little ways you COULD go gasser. If it were me it would have to be a diesel though. We have a 7500lb boat that my 5.4 4spd has to work very hard with. Makes me look and see what kind of diesel i can get for the money

Yeah it just depends on how much you are towing and how often you will tow. Just this weekend I towed a 6' x 12' trailer, about 5-6K lbs. loaded and about 1K in my truck bed and I did great, even got about 17-18 MPG. I have a 2005 5.4 with a rear gear ratio of 3.73 and I definitely have the towing package. If it doesn't have the towing package then look elsewhere. But I do not tow a lot, just here and there. A 250 is much better with the towing, but you'll pay more for gas. I get about 19-22 MPG unloaded on the highway. A 250 would probably get you 14-16 I think.

Ford's never get good gas mileage. If you want diesel fuel economy get a 01-04 LB7 Duramax or a manual tranny 5.9 cummins. I will have to call BS on your unloaded and loaded mpg numbers for the 5.4 with the 4spd.

I'm going to also say look at 3/4 tons. I have the biggest F150 Ford ever made, and it's max tow is only 9300 pounds. By the time you have a load+trailer=9000lbs, you and all your stuff in the cab, you'll have greatly exceeded the GVWR.
Get a bigger truck and you'll be happier.
