I know you lock it now, but here's one for those who might not. The other year around July 4th, some kids walked by an unlocked car. They opened the door and threw a lit pack of firecrackers inside and it set the car on fire.

As someone that just had vandals smash my windshield 2 days ago, I can empathize with the OP's and everyone elses feeling of being violated, I know I feel that way.

my friends crew cab sierra kept getting broken into via the key cylinder..

he bought a new handle for the rear door with no key hole and installed it on the driver door and uses his keyless entry to get in.

i also did this on my jeep. got the keyhole shaved off at a bodyshop and used the alarm remote to lock/unlock.

Apparently this is a nationwide issue. Found this today when looking into the jimmi jammer for my truck.

I got broken into twice. I had a kenwood gps and an ipod. They got taken , i had to pop back the original radio and take my replacement ipod out everytime i lock the car.
I honestly feel the vehicle cost so much, why not put a bit more efford on technology that might work.

I just did a theft recovery repair on a truck that had been stolen and found. New lock and ignition cylinders and the body shop did some repairs to the body. The day after I got done with it the customer came to get it and we gave him the keys and he walked out to find that his truck was stolen off the lot after I did the theft recovery repair.

I leave my stuff unlocked. cuz if they are gonna break in i dont want them to tear stuff up to get to it. My buddies 08 superduty got broke into the same way they popped in his cylinder and stole $400 of hunting gear while he was bow hunting last year. They got the plates on trail cam and they were stolen plates.

Just curious, cause I don't know the answer...

Would the insurance co pay the claim if they found the truck and it was stripped with no evidence of a break in? In other words, could they say you didn't do your part in preventing the loss by not locking the doors?

I got hit about 3 months ago...same deal, door lock pushed in. they got my netbook, about $300 worth of tools and some other sentimental stuff. Since then I have got some of that putty that sets up like metal and formed a ball then shoved it in the hole and shaved off smooth where its level with the plastic trim. I let it set up for a day or so then i tried to push it in with a screwdriver and it wouldn't budge....at least it will make the work a little harder...maybe couple seconds more..but might be enough for them to stop or get seen doing something they shouldn't.
