unbolt engine mount and trans mount and lift the engine as high as you can whitout crushing anything on top.

weld built up and a nut weld on it. remove slowly without forcing by going back and fourth.

Had the exact same situation on my 07 and the only thing that would work was my mig welder gun.

Hey there. I am attempting to replace my passenger side manifold and so far I've been able to get it out, but I have 3 broken studs below the surface of the cylinder head. Once is the bottom rear and the other two are the front upper and lower.

Can anyone who has done this job tell me exactly what you did to raise the engine enough to extract the front two broken studs? I have removed the two nuts for the engine mount, but is there anything I should remove from up top to get more clearance? Do I need to remove the trans mount as well?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Like mentionned in the post just before you:
I built up weld enough to be able to weld a nut on it.

If you want to have a straight view of broken stud by raising the engine: good luck with that!

I don't have a welder so I'm going to try to drill a pilot hold and use an extractor. From what I have seen on youtube that seems to work alright. I was just wondering what I can do to get the most access to the broken studs. I don't expect them to be right there in front of me, but as far away from that shock tower as possible.

How did you jack up the engine? Did you use a cherry picker?

Thanks!

Been there, done that

Welding is your best bet but in my case I drilled and used an extractor.

I did mine a week ago. Three studs broke. I was able to weld a nut on them and they all came right out.

Thank Connor! That is a beautiful picture! :-) Hopefully I have something similar very soon.

Hey to get your welder in there did you raise the engine?

That was quite a happy moment!

I took the nuts off the passenger motor mount. I did the job on a two post lift. I lifted the engine by lowering the truck with a 4' jack stand under the engine to get the few inches I needed.

getting access to drill is the hardest. you need to lift the engine quite a bit because of the strut tower.
that's why I decide to weld a nut.

Make sure you use SS studs when you put it back together and not them crap dorman studs you get from the parts store. Almost a year since I've done mine with no issues and the studs still look like new.
