Default brake dust

i have an '08 FX4 and i have been noticing that it puts out an excessive amount of brake dust on the front wheels. Is this normal on these trucks? I know some brake dust is normal but ill clean the rims and by the next day they are coated in dust already.

Change the pads for a high quality brake pad. If you can find them put ceramic pads. Wagner has come out with the Wagner Edge.. They are supposed to reduce brake dust.

Yea i figured i would have to change the pads to fix the dust problem. I just bought the truck last month, so i don't really want to buy new brakes for it already.

Yes, this is normal. I have a new 08 FX4 as well, lots of dust. No, its not practicle to change the pads on a brand new truck, but when its time a premium pad will help alot. We put ceramics on my wifes Maxima recently, huge difference. Until then, we will be cleaning often

Default brake dust

Ya this is normal! Clean em and drive up to the gas station and they are already dusty go figure. I found that there is a wax like coating you can put on the wheels when they are cold and clean and it help the brake dust from sticking. When spring rolls around and detailing time comes ill get the name of the stuff! I got it for advanced auto if that helps! The wax helps just not a totally but every bit helps. The stuff stays on for about six weeks from me on a daily driver. On the truck I do it once a year because Im luck to put 5k on the truck a year. And it will NOT harm the clear coat on the wheels although its a bit of a P.I.T.A. (not to bad just takes put a ton of time) to put on. So maybe that will hold you over till the next brake job.

ceramic pads as others have mentioned are the best way to go. they do have some dust residual but it is not black like regular pads... just a off white type of dust... very little though..

What a hassel. I have the factory 18" chromes and I cant drive 150 miles without that pink hew. My dealer told me to wax them with car wax and then you can just spray the brake dust off. Have not done it yet but I am going to try.
