Brake Dust!!!!
Hey guys i'm new to the forum, I just purchased a 2007 F150 SCB FX4 and I can't believe the brake dust! The truck only has 18,000 miles on it so i'm assuming it has the original pads. Do the trucks from the factory come with pads that produce that much brake dust or do you think they have been changed? Any comments would help...thanks!

I purchased my 2005 STX last year from a Ford used vehicle lot. The sales manager had been driving this truck, and presented me with the service paperwork that the Ford dealership had done on this truck. One of the items was a full brake job; 4 rotors, pads, brake fluid flush, etc. Since it was done at that dealership, I'm assuming that Ford parts were used (at least it show Ford part numbers on the service invoice).
I've been driving this truck for a year now, and I DO NOT HAVE AN ISSUE WITH BRAKE DUST.
I cannot figure out why others do however.
Now my wifes BMW; that thing bleeds brake dust! However, BMW uses a softer pad for more braking capability.
In doing some research on buying pads for my wifes BMW, I found by talking to techs that softer compound pads provide great braking, but create lots of dust. Ceramic or semi-metallic pads produce less dust, but braking efficiency is a bit lost, and your rotors can wear out earlier.
So, unless you are running your truck in weekend road course or rally races, or on the autoban at high speeds where braking is at the upmost, or you are towing quite a bit, consider switching to ceramic or semi-metallic pads. Less dust, and the slight braking loss will not be detected for normal driving.
Do you tow? Stop and go traffic? That too can be harder on your pads, causing additional dust.

Hey Bucko, Having owned quite a few BMW's over the years, I have had quite a bit of success with running either PBR or Mintex pads (both available at www.bmpd.com). Super low dust, and good stopping power.
I also have the horrible dust issue with my 2004 F150, which had 28K on it when I picked it up. I need to get new pads.... maybe this weekend.
