Bought used 2007 F150 Screw - how do I know if it has Tire Pressure Monitor System
#11
So I figured this out today, its kind of a good story but I will try to keep it short.
So like I said I bought the truck used... I then realized that my tires are 275/65-20s BUT... the factory 20" size tire is 275/55-20. So I thought I better make sure my speedometer has been corrected so I grabbed my GPS.
Now with going from a smaller tire to a bigger tire I should be traveling faster than my speedometer reads, if my truck says 70 I should have been going 74 or so... but ironically my gps said I was only doing 68 or so.
This got me thinking, am I crazy OR does this truck actually have a tune for even larger tires. Either way I realized that I need to get my self a programmer to make sure this is set right.
Bought the hypertech Max energy programmer, set everything up, installed the regular octane tune and set the tire height to 33.75" (measured them with tape ruler.) Sure enough, once I did this my gps and my truck were EXACTLY dead on!! So glad I checked because I was running with an unknown tune.
Oh and to bring this full circle, while I was uploading the tune the warning lights came on and even in the trucks digital read out (place where tells me avg mpg and temp) it said Tire pressure monitor warning and the horseshoe icon came on. I do have them and the sensors must be installed in my factory rims still.
Very cool, all this AND with the HyperTech programmer tune installed I IMMEDIATELY felt a difference in tip in power and torque!!! very very cool addition to the truck.

ford uses a banded type of clamp basically it is a big hose clamp that goes around the dropcenter of the wheel if you get new wheels your local tire guy will need to dismount your stockers first take the sensor out and reatach it to the new wheel using a new band
