Default Block Heater?

How hard are they to install if your truck doesn't have one?

Does anybody have any suggestions on aftermarket heaters?

Thoughts on this?

they are easy to install. on the drivers side of the block, you will have to install it in the rear most frost plug port. you will see an 1/8" pipe plug just below the port to drain the coolant, and then knock out the frost plug. the new heater will slip directly into the port, and have a tightening screw in the center. once you tighten the screw, re-install the drain plug, route your wire, and your good to go.

i drained my radiator when i did mine as well. not really sure if i needed to, but i figured why now. all total, i only drained MAYBE 1.5 gallons of coolant to do the job.

just be sure though that when you knock the frost plug, just tap it lightly on one side to force it to "rotate" in place, and then you can grab it with some pliers. its very easy to remove, but also very easy to drop it inside the water passage of the block.

i looked at one at NAPA, but it definatley wasnt the right size, even though their computer said it was. i got an OEM heater, and plug online for about 45.00 total.

I will look around for the OEM one then.

Probably something I will look at doing soon. How long was the install? I am considering paying a shop to do it if it is only an hour. Without a big enough garage and the proper facilities (I miss the garage at my parents house, this apartment is too small) I would rather pay to have it done since it is already cold out.

Orly? I thought I grabbed the non-heritage one.... lame.

Oh well, if OEM can be had for $45 I'd just as soon do that one.

a shop should be able to do it under an hour. if they charged more than that, i would tell them to pack sand. i did mine in my driveway and took no more than an hour, and that was even taking time to BS with a friend.

Default block/battery heater

I am looking to buy a block/battery heater from fordparspeople. I was just wondering if anyone head if this is good, and if you could tell me why they sell two different ones, one for standard battery and one for large battery. I tried to order the standard one but they are all out could i just order the one for the large and it will still work. Thanks
