Bilsteins shocks
Anyone deal with the Shock Ware House before? How has the experience been? They are advertising a special this month....

I installed the Bilstein 5100 shocks with 2” leveling setting, on my 2008 F-150. They did raise the front end almost level with the rear, but I also have a custom brush guard so that adds some weight. The difference is less then 0.25 inches. As for the ride difference, I do notice it is a little stiffer than the stock set up. Other than that it is too early to tell how they are performing. I have only driven with them on paved roads. I need to take it out and try running it in 4 wheel drive. I did test 4 wheel drive out on the pavement just to make sure nothing was in a bind. I got the kit by random luck; a salesman at a tire shop had got it for his son, and never installed it because the son could not make his mind up if he wanted to install it. So I got the entire set up for $375.00 that was for the front and rear.
I had not messed with a coil over strut pack before, so it took me some time to figure out how to get the strut back together. I did have a strut compressor, I bought from Mac Tools, and it was not big enough to get the spring compressed enough where I could put the nut back on top of the strut. So I had to get the lower A arm down as far as I could and put the pack back in the truck and let the weight of the truck compress the spring. It was not the safest way, but it’s the only way I could think of at the time.
By pushing on the lower A arm I pulled out the CV joint coming off the front differential box. This destroyed the snap ring that held the drive shaft in. I had talked to a few people and they said that is actually a good modification, to remove those snap rings, on the idea that you have more play in the CV joint which keeps it from binding up. Can anyone comment on this, I did all the work on Sunday, and no auto parts stores had the kit to fix that snap ring? So I just left it out, and put the CV joint back together. Should I get a new snap ring? One last question, does anyone know what size tire I can fit with the leveling kit? If anyone has more questions or clarifications I would be happy to answer. But for now, with the small amount of experience with the Bilstein leveling kit I would recommend it.

you mentioned your front is now level with the back, did you raise the back also? im thinking if you raised the back then the shocks raised the front more than 2" it was also my understanding that the bilstein shocks were a bolt on deal??

No lift on the rear, just the replacement Bilstein shocks to match the front. I only got the advertised 2” of lift on the front. They are bolt on but you will need a strut compressor, (can rent from most auto parts stores) or take the assembly to a shop and have them compress the spring for you. I was working on a Sunday so I did not have that luxury. The strut compressor I had was not large enough to get the spring compressed enough to get the nut on top of the strut that holds the entire thing together. Once you get the coil and strut back together it is a easy install.
I had to take it to a few shops. I don't know if New Jersey shops are just lame or what....but I had to end up taking it to a ford dealership because all the shops around here told me my springs were "too heavy duty"....
I got my front-end realigned per recommendation of the dealership.
