Default Big 3 Upgrade Questions

Im planning on doing the big three upgrade on my truck and upgrading to 1/0 gauge wire.
my question was for the people who've accomplished it and done it before, what did you do to the existing wire? Did you cut them off and use the same plug socket for the alternator?
Or did you just leave them in place and not cut anything?
here are some pics I took

ground was about 13-14 inches

positive running to the alternator

what way did you go about hooking up the alternator? im still scratching my head on that one

Your pics are right. There is a stud on the alternator you can put the 1/0 on. Do use a fuse on the alt to battery run.

Also go from motor to frame as well.

I used existing wire+new wire.

thanks for the quick reply

Ill take a few more pics of the alternator and post them in a bit so I have more of a clue before I do this.
hopefully you can point me in the right direction so I can hook up the alternator correctly

Well follow the big wire to the back of the alternator. This is held on by a 10mm nut. There are 4 bolts to hold the black bracket on and then 2 in the front to remove it. These 2 do not need to come out all the way. Lift straight up. Take the serpentine belt off first.

The one you have labeled socket has a nut on it. You can cut/trim the lug to fit that or you can mount them both on the one labeled tap. You will want to ensure you do not ground this out as it will make a fireworks show that you do not want to experience.

Lmao yes im aware of the firework show lol

so your saying I would disconnect this socket and cut off the wire running through it, from there I would discard the existing wire and install the 1/0 gauge wire while still using the existing plug from the wire I discarded correct?

You should not need to cut any stock wires. Pull that black boot off you'll see that nut I am talking about.

I have an alt in the garage I should go take some pics for ya.

yes your correct. didn't think it had a nut under the boot lol now that that's cleared up, would it hurt to remove that wire and add the 1/0 gauge in place with an inline fuse? or its best to run both and not discard it?

I ran both. You can do either. There are fusable links in that black mesh, look at the mesh towards that battery.
