Better sounding exhaust system recommendations
Hi, all. My first post here. I have a 2006 F150 with the 5.4 engine. It's totally stock. I recently drove a family member's pickup the other day, and was really surprised at how it sounded like a "truck." Comparatively, mine just sounds like a car. Soooo, I think I want to change that.
So, I don'y want it to sound obnoxious, just kind of deep and throaty, like a truck. What systems work well with this truck and engine, and produce decent sound? Is engine performance affected at all? Sorry, it's probably clear I'm not really a "car guy." I'll make no apologies for that either, and it's not gonna change, but I would like to get a new system for my truck.
Ideas?

I have this set....https://www.flowmastermufflers.com/e...%20/%20Kits&kw=
I like it because it was super easy to install, looks and sounds nice. It has a good note but nothing that can be heard from super far away.

Renaissance Honky
Get a 3.5" diameter, 12" long tip and install it. It adds just enough 'weight' to the sound that you can actually hear it in the cab.
square-cut end should have a real nice growl to it. slash cut will be mellower.
when it gets right down to it, these exhausts aren't really all that 'quiet', but they've been scienced to death and don't sound like anything. Just putting a bigger tip on it gives it a bit of a voice.

Yeah I'd say anything Flomaster would be great for these engines. I'd have to check what series im running but it's not annoyingly loud but loud enough for idle to sound great and flooring it to sound mean as hell. There's some drone at steady 2k rpms but I like it. Duals as well on mine. My friend's father recently complimented me on the sound.

I bought a 50 Series Flowmaster from Walmart online and it's purrfect for me. Loud enough you can hear it without disturbing the whole neighborhood. It's shorter than the stock muffler so you'll need an extension pipe.

I had a Flowmaster original 40 on my 5.4 and the sound was ok, nothing great. I changed it out for a Black Widow race venom and the sound is fantastic with zero drone at cruising speed. I highly recommend Black widow. They have a few different models for different volume levels.
