Default Bestop or Amp Rear Folding Bumper Step-04

Guys and Girls,

I'd like to buy then mount one of the above accessory steps to the back of my 2004 SCAB. These don't seem to be made to fit a 2004 F150 Flareside and when they do it is a 2006 and newer non-Flareside truck.

My question is, for those that mounted them, where exactly on the frame does it mount and does anyone have a photo or drawing of where?

I'm slowly starting to think that I'd have to fab up a mount to anchor it to my truck (which I'd do if I thought I had to) as my model doesn't seem to be supported.

Thanks in advance,

QuickRick

I would like a step too for my 2004 Flare-side, am interested in what people have to say.

For some reason the Lund brand shows no step for the 04-05 F150, only 06 and newer. And only standard bed as you said. I wonder what the difference is?

EDIT:
And the Bedstep site only shows 06-14 F150.

EDIT:
This one fits a 2007, but not flareside.
Amazon Amazon

EDIT:
I just found a used 75302-01A used on ebay for $130, purchased it, I will weld/fab up a bracket if necessary for my 04 Flareside, been wanting a step, this thread got me searching. Will post info on my "custom" install.

Default Bumper Step

Thanks for the reply and for doing the homework on this. As beefy as the frame is in these trucks it shouldn't be tough to find a way to anchor it.

Keep us all apprised okay?

Will do.

Checked under the truck. The big difference between between the Flareside and standard bed is how there is bed side and bumper support just slightly wider than the tailgate, which is where the step would mount.

If I remove the rear bumper to gain better access it looks like I can trim about 2" from the spot where the steel support for the flareside plastic body bolts on.

Bolts for the steel bumper screw down through the TOP of the bumper, hidden by the plastic pieces in the bumper. The side ones are held in with 3 plastic clips each, but the 4' wide piece under the tailgate where the license plate goes is held in with 8+? Removing this may be a PITA!

Default Bedstep

Thanks Hub,

Like the movie Godfather, Marlon Brando wanted to hear all bad news right away.

Do you feel that it maybe easier to just make your own new mounting if possible or else deal with the way its designed to go?

Because I don't have the step in my hand it's hard to envision.

My tentative plan is to eliminate the mounting bracket that comes with the step and make my own plate to bolt the step to. The part where the bolts go through it parallel to the step so it's not a weird angle or anything.

Next week, or when I start working on it, I will post pics.

Again, that damn 4' plastic bumper in-lay looks like a PITA to remove without breaking clip, but once out the bumper looks very easy to remove.

HubFord,

What have you learned since I've been away?

Default Rear bedstep

My buddy had this installed on his new F150 longbed, first I got to try it out. I like that device, it adds to the utility of the vehicle.

On his new Ford the installation couldn't have been easier.

Rick,
I haven’t done anything with the step yet, decided to paint my workroom and epoxy the floor instead.
