The interstate is a standerd low mantenence flooded cell [wet] and is no different than most other wet batterys. the optima is a spiral wound AGM [absorbed glass mat] not a gell cell as most people tend to call it. both the wet and AGM have ther advantages and dissadvantages. as a general rule the AGM will provide more cranking amps than the wet battery and they can be mounted in most any position except upside down without leaking and they rarely give any problems. but when they go bad its useualy all at once. A wet cell will give more than enough power so long as your chargeing system is up to par. the wet cell is much more tolerant to heat and overcharge than a AGM and you can add water if needed. heat and overcharge will kill a AGM fairly fast. the AGM will cost considerably more than a premium wet battery and both will under normal use last about the same..In my opinion if you live in a hot climate go with a wet battery in colder climates the AGM will serve you well but at a higher price

dissensions, dissensions,. I read that the Optima is not as good in cold temp. I see that Batteries have gone up in price. Advanced auto has 20% off on the Yellow tops.

If you do go with Interstate make sure you get the Mega Tron Plus 65. For cold climates it is a good choice for the extra $$. It has a good warranty and plenty of cold cranking amps.
