Default ball joints

Hey guys. I just got back from getting new tires installed on my 2005 f150. And the guys at tirekingdom told me that my uppers and lowers are shot. They took me into the shop and showed me the play in the joints. But I didn't see it budge at all. They quoted 1200 to replace. It sounded a bit high. And I also think they were trying to get out of work early and didn't want to take the time to do my alignment. But now they got me worried about it. do You guys think that price is reasonable?

Was the truck on a lift when they showed you the "play" or sitting on the ground?

It was on the lift. Also I thought I should add that I haven't heard any clunking, squeaking or any strange noises. I also just had the both spindles and hubs replaced a few months ago. The ship I brought it to said nothing about the joints being bad or might have to be replaced soon.
