Default back up warning intermittent

My back up system is shutting off intermittently lately. Does anyone know where I'd even begin to troubleshooting? Sometimes it works, other times I'll be backing carefully until I'd expect a chirp/beep and nothing. I glace down any off button is illuminated, it won't let me turn it back on.
Any help would be appreciated!

your reverse sensing system is shutting off due to a faulty sensor... set the parking brake and turn the key to the run position and put your truck in reverse.. go to the back of your truck and listen to each sensor for a clicking sound. the one with no clicking sound is going bad or has failed. be sure to check the integrity of the wires also. had one of mine replaced under warranty.

If the system has shut itself down is there a way to turn it back on to troubleshoot?
