Default Axel into transfer case

Ok so i just had my local shop replace the seals in my transfer case and my question is should my axel be sticking this far out of my transfercase. On every other truck i have looked under the axel wasnt sticking this far out but granted i do have a 2.5 leveling kit on the truck i didnt think it would make the axel stick out this far.

Looks fine to me. They may have used a different style tail seal is why you see or think you see more than you used to.

I have never seen that done by a quality mechanic. That usually happens when someone messes up the seal during instal.

I could be totally wrong here but perhaps a Ford tech on this forum can chime in. This may be something common practise with that seal but I do not think so. The ousdie of the seal fits tightly into the Tcase so there should be no concern about leakage there and thus no need for sealant. The leak always occur by wear at the seal and driveshaft point.

I would be more concerned with that.

As for your question, there needs to be a space there for the driveshaft to slide in and out as the suspension cycles. Its a slip yoke

I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Some seals are known to seep. I don't think this T case seal is one that commonly does though?

The slip yoke is at the correct depth. You can't "adjust" it anyway. As far as the silicone, yeah thats enough for 3 or 4 seals, but if it isn't leaking don't worry about it. If I were doing it, I'd apply a very thin bead/film around the radius where the outer wall of the seal terminates into the flange, but you'd never see it. Those seals are painted with a fairly thick and soft paint which is designed to serve as the sealing compound.
