Default Axel code 19

Ok so I'm upset about this I have the code 19 and that means 3.55 with an open diff. Now did ford have an electronic diff put in these trucks it's a 2008 or is it just straight open diff. It seems pretty dumb to have an open diff with 4x4. How screwed am I I do a lot of fishing and I do have to go through some muddy patches here and there. One more question with an open diff does it still power all wheels until it senses a loss in traction or is it just one wheel all the time?

That would be how a LS works... open ...only one wheel gets power.

the one that has less traction gets power. Just get a good set of tires. I got some Firestone destination A/T's on my 03 and I got though mud in 2WD ( open diff also ) that I had to lock the diff to get though in a 2015 F150 with crappy Goodyear highway tires. Yes it was in the same exact spot but was raining when I took my 03 in it. Here's the aftermath in both trucks. And both sets of tires had less then 1,500 miles on them.
