Default auto tech help pleaseeee

hey guys i have a 2005 fx4 5.4 3v with 112k on it and since i got it 5 months ago its had a tick noise (not injectors) but 2 days ago when driving i noticed it got alot louded, here are the conditions. hot or cold it doesnt matter ive noticed it in park nutrual drive and revers. not matter the rmps i can hear it. and at all speeds. oil gauge on dash is right in the center. under full throtal from a stop sign after it hits 2500 rmps it kinda feels like its bogging down and it back fires (im running streight pipes. its sounds like a gun shooting behind me.) under regular driving the power is regular. im thinking the vct solinoid but still on the edge till i can tear into it.

please help me narrow stuff down

i can here it relly well in both wheel wells and alittle under the hood but really good laying under the truck

Did you ever change the plugs? That's what happened to mine it would back fire and sounded like m80s goin off got the plugs changed no backfire after that and as far as the ticking noise that's probably your vcts taking a crap but not sure about that

Just for reference the oil gauges in our trucks are only on at 5 or 6 psi there not actual gauges. The only reason it goes up with rpm is because of battery voltage.

Yeah the same thing happened to me when my plugs were going out it would be fine under normal driving but when you floored it it would go fine until it hit 3000 then it was like you were pulling a 4000lbs trailer and back firing and what not then when it 4000rpm it went fine again till it shifted then the same thing would happen lol get the plugs changed and then your next step would be new phasers
