Default Anyone know this vac line

Can anyone tell me if this vac line should be capped? It seems to run down to the left front hub. I traced a second line from the 4x4 solenoid across front if engine to the hub as well. I had some grinding noise last night as was going to change solenoid.

I'm thinking. Although a picture of your specific issue would have helped. If this is the case it engages your axles when the truck is put in 4wd.

Image borrow from here, thanks to the member that posted it.

Well for some reason I can't get it to post the pic from my phone and this question is useless without a pic. I'll try from home later when I get time.

The two "ports" on the 4x4 hub are vacuum ports for the engagement of 4x4. Grinding noise generally means your "hub Actuator" needs to be replaced. The solenoids in the cab are normally not the issue. Make sure the 2 small vacuum hoses are connected to the "Actuator". If either of the hoses have a "tear" in them the hub will not engage. Examine the hoses and replace if needed. This is very easy to do.

If it still grinds in 2WD or 4WD shift out of 4WD in to 2WD or vice versa. If it grinds in one and not the other the hub is bad. The hubs are about $120 each as I recall. The trick is figuring out which side is bad. Listen closely as the noise I being made. It's a fairly easy fix but takes some proper tools.

The key to the fix is to make sure you install the new one correctly. Make sure you get the teeth of the gear fully aligned and engaged into the wheel hub during the install. If it doesn't seat properly you will wreck the new part in short order.

Good Luck. JB

actually one is a vacuum line and one is a vent line.. and its very easy to tell which side IWE is bad if you use a vacuum pump while troubleshooting.. and shop at rock auto for a better deal on parts..

Yea I read about trouble shooting the Iwe. I have an abs light on that tells me the right front. I ordered the whole hub vs the sensor from rock auto. I tried shifting into 4x4 to make the grinding stop but it continued in 2 or 4 wd. I pulled over a few times and it ended up stopping but now seems to not want to engage the 4x4. I have the old stele kid with no cover so for $15 I ordered one along with the hub for cheap insurance.
