Like the title says I bought these foglights off pro tuning labs. They came with HIDS already installed in projector fog housings. My question is the sticker on the top says they are 35W ballasts and bulbs the company says they are 35W AC ballasts and bulbs but on the back is printed 55W I've installed them but I'm nervous about turning them on I've heard 55W without a relay harness will fry the wiring. Also there are little black boxes going from the ballasts to the bulbs that day 23000V danger to life. What are these? Should I order different ballasts

? Or should I just get a relay harness? I plan on upgrading the headlights with 35w AC kit and I'm definitely adding a relay harness to those. Thanks in advance. Also my headlights ate spyder projector headlights so no lectures about HIDS in stock housings thanks.

Hi.

Those are junk, my friend.

Running those inexpensive generic HID capsules higher than 35W is asking for trouble. And further - I doubt those generic ballasts will ever achieve their marked rated output.

The little black boxes are the external igniters.

I'd return or sell them and at least buy quality XB ballasts in 35W from TRS.

It won't make the quality of the beam pattern from those heads any better ( nothing will help - they are not designed properly), but at least you won't burn yer truck down.

BTW - AWLAYS use a relay harness - regardless of wattage. TRS sells those as well.

Protuninglabs has a very unremarkable reputation - and I'm being conservative here, lol.

good luck

Thanks can I leave them in there for now and just not turn them on? Or should I just try and put the led bulbs I have in the new fogs for now?

So I need to run 2 relay harnesses then right? One to the heads and one to the fogs?

Sure you can, but what are you going to do at night for lighting - just run the Led fogs? Is that even legal?

Can you simply reinstall yer halogen heads until you get this sorted?

The hids that I posted are in the fogs I haven't messed with headlights yet at all they are still halogen bulbs. Sorry if I made it confusing. I plan on ordering the headlights soon though. That's why I asked should I run 2 relay harnesses. 1 to the foglights and one to the headlights?

Hi bud;

Thanks fer clearing that up - as you know, I'm easily confused .

To answer ye first question - Yes - run a separate relay harness for the heads and the fogs.

Second question - consider that ALL the OEM ballasts ( Denso, Mitsu, Matsu, etc all run external igniters. It's a good design approach - keeps the hi KV stuff right near the bulb, rather than in the ballast body. Ideally right at the bulb base connector, as the D2S units are.

good luck

Better ballasts would be ideal, but to be fair to you, given that those '55W' marked ballasts are probably only outputting ~30-35w anyway (a function of their compromised design), you could probably get away with running them in the short term.

The problem is that I'm not Certain of this - and I'd hate to assume it's okay and cause a problem for y'all. For all we know - they can actually meet spec.

So - if you can afford to wait, I'd recommend erring on the side of caution.

Aight?

TRS runs sales, has coupon codes and sometimes offers free shipping, FWIW.

Cheers
