05 FX4 5.4.. Trans sometimes shudders when towing.. Called ford they said to bring it in for a trans up-date.. Typical?

 

Just a swag guess on my part, but perhaps they are going to change the shift "firmness" points. Most tuners can do this as well. It firms up the shifts; prevents slippage.

 

define shudders? when does it do this?

 

Its shutters sometimes under a load.. towing boat ect.. it will do it when im light on the throttle then right b4 it shifts to 2nd gear while towing ill give it a bit of pedal and it will shake and shutter, not a missfire i can feel the truck jump its almost like a chadder in the clutch when it doesnt know what to do when i give it gas kinda in the middle of the shift between 1st and 2nd almost like it cant make up its mind.. should i go to 2nd or back to 1st and it will chadder untill i let of the gas.. ??

 

put 2 bottles of ford friction modifier in the tranny.
