Default Any Known issues with A/C compressors?

Just curious to know If anyone out there knows if there are any known issues with A/C compressors on the 4.2 V-6's? The back story- My uncle liked my 04 S-crew and he was looking for a new truck. He purchased a 07 150 2wd with a 4.2 it had 40,000 miles on it. By 50,000 miles the A/C compressor started making a loud squealing with the clutch engaged. It lugs the little 6 so bad the idle drops to @ 400 RPM's with it engaged. I got a low mileage used compressor (20,000 miles)from our local yard as the new ones are quite expensive. I replaced it and all was well. Fast forward a year and the truck now has 60,000 on it and it is doing the same thing. Is there a known issue with these compressors? I have replaced a half a dozen or so on the 5.4's but never on a 4.2. Pressures were good the first time but I have not seen the truck yet to put the gauges on it this time. Any input? Kind of feel like crap cause this could be an expensive repair if we wind up putting the full kit on it (compressor, accumulator, orifice) but we will if we have to.

Thanks
James

You mentioned that you have replaced several a/c compressors on the 5.4. Are the issues with the 5.4 causing any acceleration or power issues with the trucks? I have been having a issue with my truck that when I turn the a/c on, the truck lacks power from low rpms. It doesn't seem to affect the idle, or as much at higher rpm's, but when I am accelerating from low rpm's, the truck struggles more when the a/c is on.

The majority of the issues with the 5.4 comressors have all been clutch/coil related. I have been out of wrenching everyday for a living for almost 2 years. A few years ago you couldnt get clutch or coil parts. You had to buy the entire compressor as a unit (Compressor & clutch). I think out of all of the ones I replaced only one was for a internal failure. None have had symptoms like you are describing with your truck.
