185k, 2006 5.4L. No problems and no alarming timing related "noises". Engine wise just replaced alternator/battery. Nothing else mechanically replaced.

May be naive or just stupid - but at 253,500 (FULL timing job at 212) the list of other original parts is longer than replaced parts - I think my 5.4 has given excellent service. Runs strong, pulls good, good oil pressure ( but mileage down to ~ 11.5) and routinely goes many drive cycles (20 - 40 and sometimes 70) without registering a single misfire. Alternator / PS pump / Starter / CATS / ABS / tranny / rearend / rear wheel bearings - all original.

Remember, they made millions of these engines and only a small percentage have issues. The people that are talking/ posting are the ones that have issues (like me). They are great engines.

Poke around at the ecoboost forum and you will see the same thing. 5.0, same thing....

238K on my 06 Lariat. No issues except the FPDM and the a/c clutch (I replaced both easily) and a worn leather drivers seat. The body has no rust and it drives like new. All original timing components (I know I'm tempting fate) but it was on my "to do" list until COVID had other plans for my employment.

My 08 5.4 has been great up until last 500 miles. About 1 out of every 10-15 starts I hear passenger side tensioner rattle. Bought it new. 41000 miles. I have replaced battery, rear shocks and tires.

After taking care of the tensioner/phaser issue, and putting in a set of fresh injectors, it's been tip-top.
E30 blend was a lot of fun to drive, too. But I've moved on.

I didn't know enough about Fords when I bought my 2004 and paid the price, literally, by replacing the engine.. Must say the truck has been dead nuts reliable since.

As a present and past member of other internet auto forums (Mercedes, VW TDI and Harley Davidson) I would offer the following generality. People most often do not post on a forum unless they are having problems for which they need help. There are many, many more driving the same/similar vehicles without problems that are simply enjoying the ride.
