Default Another Trans question

Group,
2005 XL, 4.6, Super Cab. What is the transmission service schedule? I am finding 60K online. My owners manual (Unlike my other 3 Fords) did not come with a maintenance schedule. Truck has 55K miles so I figure it is getting close. Some local shops do a trans flush and replace with synthetic and this may have been done to this truck before I bought it. From talking to a local reputable shop they have gotten away from the pressure flush jobs because they can cause problems. This shop drops the pan, replaces the filter and brings the level back to normal (Which is what I do at home).
So the question is: If the fluid is red on the dipstick is this a good indication that it is NOT synthetic? Also, the truck is used for light towing occasionally. Should I consider some type of trans cooler or finned pan? The truck has the factory receiver and lighting plugs but being an XL and not an XLT I am assuming it does not have a tow package.
Thanks for any help!

The fluid used (Mercon V or equivalent) is red.
Honestly, you're doing fine with a pan drop, filter change and fluid exchange. Do that every 20k or so, about 4 times, and you're good. Wouldn't waste money sending it to a shop.

Oh yeah, allows you to inspect/clean magnet as well.
If you're feeling froggy, you can install the Dorman pan with built in drain bolt

To answer your original question, the factory service schedule is 150k for trans fluid replacement (normal service schedule).

I have the PDF in front of me.

The 60k is only for "vehicles equipped with the torqshift transmission" which we don't have.

Also, it's every 30k for "special operating conditions" on all transmissions except 6R60 trans. This is defined as "operating in dusty conditions such as unpaved or dusty roads"

Default Thanks

Thanks guys. Its interesting that my old Mercon Fords had a much shorter service interval than my MerconV fords. Has to be better fluid, Right? I have old mustangs that I switched from Mercon to Mercon V and I am wondering if I should lengthen the interval on my Mustangs.
Lastly, Yes, I dislike the Trans Flush services. I have always done whatever the manual recommends (When it recommends "Service" I don't do a flush) and have around 200K mileage with the original transmissions when I get rid of them.

Many if not most XLs are bought as work trucks. I'm sure they could have a tow package.
