GL w the impact method. I saw the guy on Youtube do it but I didn't have the guts to try it... kinda cool though. If you're gonna use the impact, why not just walk em out all the way instead of doing the initial 1/8th turn w a rachet?

The intial 1/8 turn is to allow the carb cleaner or other solvent of choice to penatrate and breakdown the hold that the carbon has on it. An impact or a ratchet will make no difference at all in the success or failure rate of the procedure. Failure to soak and allow the carbon deposits to be broken down is what will lead to the plugs seperating.

The "impact driver" method has been used and they do not seem to come apart.
presoaking and impact should be almost a failsafe IMO.

That is true. I ran Seafoam thru my engine, cracked the plugs, let PB soak for 24 hours, and they all came out easy with an impact. What little carbon left over after the Seafoam was easily softened by the PB Blaster.

And there is virtually no risk of using an impact as long as you do it on a cold engine.
