Another heated mirror thread
Hey Guys,
I'm only a NEWB here in the fact that I am asking questions. Been using the site for intel for about 8 years. Can't seem to pinpoint my problem here. Perhaps y'all can help.
I have an 05 FX4 SCREW (2 full doors, 2 suicide doors). Came with power mirrors. A friend upgraded his 05 FX4 Crew Cab (4 full doors) with fancy tow mirrors and gave me his old ones that had the turn signals and heated functionality. One would assume, plug and play right? Apparently, that's not the case.
I purchased an eBay special climate control console with the three buttons (A/C, Recirc and Heated Mirrors button) as my truck only had two, the A/C and recirc buttons. When I plugged it in and turned on the truck for testing, the controls on the "mode" dial are all jacked. For example, MAX A/C only blows out of the vents, not everywhere like it's supposed to. When turning one spot to vent only, the air comes out of the dash/defrost. When turning to straight defrost, all the way to the right, the air blows through the dash?!
Did some checking in the Ford Service manuals that my friend has. Ohmed the wiring in the truck and it ohms to factory specs. I assumed the console was bad. Contacted the eBay seller and they sent me another console for free. Guess what...it acted exactly the same. Can't figure this out.
Back to the heated mirrors. Fuse #8 is the heated mirror fuse in our trucks. Guess what? My truck doesn't have anything populated on the back side of the fuse panel to take a fuse. No resistance to put one in!! What the heck? Aren't all fuse panels supposed to be made the same for every truck and then any trim level can be added to? Certainly, the XL isn't using a different harness than the KR? Or my FX4 built in 10/04 to my buddies FX4 04/05 of the same model year electrically would be the same. I am aware of the mid year upgrade/change but don't think this is the problem.
What would you do?
