Another 5.4 misfire thread

firing order is 13726548 so misfire can be from each cyl on side of firing order .so check 7 and 6 real good .Thats because misfires are determined by the kick on the crank as its supposed to fire .
Smoke test is where you inject homemade youtube smoke machine into brake booster hose with engine off, block air intake with rags . Smoke can come out all the way back to the rear axle . The shop smoke machines are very expensive .

Alright everyone here's an update as of yesterday. I'm changing my spark plug two at a time (because of time and money reasons) so yesterday I changed #5 and #6. When I put to socket on #5 to seat it I noticed how loose it was. That lead me unscrewing it by hand. Which absolutely blew my mind. I started it back up and it showed misfire in #3. I cleared the codes and it has gone away and I've noticed more power. I also do not have the gas smell anymore (coming from the loose spark plug) and better yet my prego wife can't smell it either!

Thats why we said a couple things we did early on in this thread. Make sure all plugs are torqued to 25-28 foot pounds and don't use anti seize. Not the first time weve heard of plugs coming loose. Glad you're getting somewhere with it, better make sure all the other follow those same two rules.

Plugs aren't expensive, not compared to the cost of repeated misfires. Replace them all, proper torque, before you have to replace cats and coils. Those are far more expensive.
Glad you're making headway.

Yes yes yes, dumb me. I just don't understand why it would show #2 misfire if it wasn't #2!!! But I learn from mistakes. Hopefully by the middle of next month I'll have them all replace.
P.s. anyone have any tricks for taking out the back 4 to make life a little easier?!

Do you have a tuner on yours? Unplug the battery first... I had mine on level 2 when I disconnected the computer without first disconnecting the battery, and had actually typed up a craigslist ad for the truck before thinking of returning it to stock. Problem solved.

Yes exactly that.
Disconnect battery before unplugging computer. ::Shouldn’t:: make a difference, but it did for me.
To be exta safe, return it to stock settings before doing anything.
