I got a 05 xlt with the 5.4L. Its got 115k miles. When I get on the gas, whether from a stand or while rolling, theres a pause, you hear the engine rev up and then the truck goes a second later. The pause seems almost ridiculously long. its a good 3 seconds from when i step down till the truck goes.

My knowledge of torque convertors is pretty limited. If this is normal can somebody explain this to me? Is there anything I can do to improve this? It's very frustrating when merging or passing.

i have the same year, engine, and miles, i put a tuner on my truck recently and it is a night and day difference.

I second the tuner. Makes quite a difference.

Calibrate your throttle my friend.
Key on, engine off.
Slowly depress the gas pedal to the floor several times (3+).
.... And that's it.
However a tuner will also sharpen things up

Turn the ign key off. Turn it to run, don't crank the motor. Step slowly down on the accelerator until it is to the floor and let it up quickly, turn off the key. Repeat process exactly 2 more time. Start motor after and see if truck runs better. This process callibrates the accelerator/throttle body opening to the ECU. It should react quicker if everything is in good mechanical/electrical condition.

mine does the same thing. i always figure it was just the tranny dropping in to another gear. might have to try that reset thing.

3 seconds with no forward movement? Is your e brake on? It may be seized or frozen... The pedal trick as mentioned does work well. But 3 seconds, thats a problem. I have felt about a 1 second "hang up" after depressing the throttle hard... Is that how your driving?

Thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure its not the ebrake. I can tell when I do leave it on and when it does go, it doesn't feel sluggish. It sounds like your one second hang up, but i feel like its just too long.
I'll try recalibrating it today and see if there's a difference.
