Default Air Conditioner Issues on my 2007 King Ranch Super Crew

I have had this truck for 3-1/2 years now and until this spring, the Air Conditioner has worked fine. This Spring, it was not cooling like it had been so I added a can of R134a to it. Now when I drive it, it sometimes blows out at 40 degrees. Then when I stop and shut it off, get back in it then it only cools down to 52-54 degrees. If I drive it about 30 minutes or so, sometimes, it gets back down to 40 degrees. Sometimes it just won't get to 40 at all. It is either 52-54 or 40.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why mine is acting this way?
I liked it better when it was spitting ice cubes out the vents
.
Thank you!!

Ed. Yes sir. The Compressor is engaged and running. It does cycle properly. I understand that it warms when it is not engaged, but this happens while it is in fully engaged and working. Thanks for your response.

How did it cool when you added the can?

I totally expected it to be just fine fine after adding the can of R134a. I was expecting it to be cold, as usual, again. It wasn't the first trip out that I started noticing that it was not acting right. It got really hot here early, so by the time I got it added, the weather had cooled back down, plus I don't drive my truck every day. I might not have driven it but once a week. It sits in the garage most of the time. It is used mainly to take us to the lake about 100 miles from here then hook to the boat drag it down the hill to the lake. So it was a while before I noticed that it wasn't working as it used too.
When I noticed it wasn't working right, It was warmer weather and I started driving it more just to see it's pattern.
Driving it to work and home doesn't give me a good idea of how it was working because it is only 4.5 miles to work.
It is the trips to the lake that I notice his acting up.

could be over charged, could have a leak and be undercharged. does it cycle the compressor? If yes is it a rapid cycle? You can also charge a can of lUV leak detector, then look for a leak. Sounds like a leak, I would pull a vacuum on it and see if it holds the vacuum. If not then off to the shop!
