Default Air Conditioner Issue

Normal or not? The AC in this 2006 Lincoln MK LT, 35K original miles, seems to be acting oddly.

I am not an expert on AC systems so this is why I am here. When I start the truck on a hot day (North Texas summers), the AC will blow hot air as long as I am willing to let it sit there. The second I start driving it starts blowing cold. So my ninja intuition is telling me that air has to be flowing over something in order to make something work on the AC system?

My grandfather had taken it to the dealer a few years back for the AC seemingly doing the same thing. I believe the repair said the there was an issue with the fan and or fan clutch. I had my techs check the Freon and the they said everything was on point and working fine on that end. Of course it was cooling because I drove it around and back into the shop.

So why is the AC not cooling until I start driving? I can hear the compressor clutch kicking on and off when I turn the AC on and off so I know the compressor is working. I know the Freon level is fine and no leaks. So I am trying to understand the AC system and what role air flow through the front end has to play with these AC systems.

Anyone else dealt with this? Dealing with this? And or having / or had this same issue. She doesn't ever run hot, even on the hottest of days while sitting in gridlock, so I believe the fan is working as designed. I have considered doing away with the clutched fan and going with electric fans as I have done on previous Fords.

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

My experience with your issue stems from a similar problem we had with one of our fire trucks... Would sit there and blow hot at idle, but the second you added a little RPMs, it started snowing in the truck. Our diagnosis from an AC shop was a failing (not yet totally shot) compressor. They changed everything and we never had a problem since. I hope this isn't your issue... Maybe someone with a little more AC experience can chime in.

Could be a bad fan clutch
