Thank you for the input! AFAIK, all 04.5+ F-150s are throttle-by-wire, and I know mine is for sure.

So, a whole replacement steering wheel is indeed necessary? Why is it necessary, since the base steering wheel (with no cruise) already has the blanks in place of the switches? Does it have to do with the wiring or something? Thanks again!

Not sure why the whole wheel has to be replaced, that is just how they sell it as an accessory. I can check on a price for you tomorrow, not as bad as you think. If I remember correctly, its not much more than the switches themselves. You see when Ford sells an item as an "accessory", they tend to have more competitive pricing, whereas if it is a service part, such as replacement switches, its a different story. I will let you know...

well when i bought my 08 XL it did not have cruise... i told them i had to have cruise in order to take the truck... they took and reaplced the steering wheel...said it made it easier and cheaper on them to replace wheel with cruise than to adapt mine.... all i know is that i did not pay for it so not 100 percent sure...and contrary to popular belief my green light on the dash does work when cruise is on.... maybe there is a difference in level of techs at each dealership

yes it goes through what is called the sliding contact/ clockspring assy. and yes it is already there
