Default leaf spring help

I just installed the same kit this weekend. Very nice kit and very easy to install. Lift and support the truck with two jack stands. Remove rear axle tires. Do one side at a time, leave the floor jack under the pumpkin. Remove the u bolts, I suggest soaking the bolts in pb blaster the night beforehand. Once the u bolts are removed, use a couple c clamps to clamp down the springs so they can't fly apart. Use a cut off wheel, cut the two bolts off that hold the spring pack together. Once those are gone, grind down the rivets on the leaf springs clamps one on each end of the springs. Slide the clamps out towards the shackles. Disassemble the spring pack. Figure out where your spring fits the best at in the pack it goes longest to shortest in the length of the springs. You may have to finish grinding off whats left of the rivets on the springs from the clamps. Install the new spring in correct order with new hardware supplied in the kit. Put the truck back together in the order it came apart. Make sure your torque all the hardware to the specs supplied with the kit. Follow the same instructions on the other side. When finished enjoy a cold drink and smile. Good luck and use all personal protection equipment.

Yeah but what about replacing the spring clamps then. What did you just leave them off totally now. How come you had to grind off the center bolts holding the pack together instead of just undoing the bolts were they frozen on yours. What year was your truck I'm figuring the new spring looks like it will go in 3 down from the top.

Your add a leaf sits just above the overload leaf..
1 up from the bottom leaf, (on top of the overload leaf).
You don't need to touch the alignment clamps your seeing, leave them alone..
Before you remove the center bolt that pins the pack together, you need to us 2 c clamps on the pack together, so the leafs don't instantly separate and hit you in the face when the pin is removed. That pin should be replaced with the new pin your add a leaf should have come with.. Sometimes you need to cut it when it's old and rusted together...
This job is not as easy as just swapping a block, but it is still easy.. Check out you tube for full visuals

I think with the Pro Comp long add a leaf it sits higher in the pack then that. You go longest on top to shortest on the bottom and from what I measured it lands 3 down, it's just a tad smaller than the second spring down from the top which lands it in the clamps . This isn't the short spring which is easier to install but gives you a stiffer ride from what ive read. Also on these trucks there are 2 pins per spring that hold them together not just one.

Yeah the are 2 pins.. But it's the same procedure either way..
If you have an add a leaf, it always goes to the bottom of the pack, on top of the flat overload leaf..
Are your pin holes offset on the leaf? Meaning not centered?

Yes they are offset and the longer section goes towards the rear but this isn't considered just a helper spring so I'm pretty sure it doesn't go where you think it does. They say to put it in in size order depending on length and that's why I'm saying it goes higher up. It's almost as long as the 2nd spring. Guess I'll see I'm installing today.

If that's the case then it's probably not the exact same procedure as most add a leaf kits..
You will want to pry/bend the leaf clips open and slide them up towards the shackle and then back down over the new leaf.. Then close them back up with a big c clamp or hammer them closed..
The same add a leaf procedure applies, but you will need to take the extra step and open up those alignment clamps..
Did the new leafs come with plastic anti squeak shims?

The placement of the aal spring depends on how many leaf you have to start with. 2/1 leaf packs (2 leafs, 1 overload) the clips won't need to be moved. If you have 3/1 or 4/1 leaf packs, the clips need to be moved to disassemble the pack for aal install.

Best way of doing this is heat the clips with a torch then pry them apart, or cut them off (they won't slide). Even if you heat them up and bend them back you're not going to be able to bend them all the way back together, so you'll need new ones. That's how it went when I did mine.

After the springs were back in place I slide the clamps back into the same position and all three fit inside of the clamps. My truck is a 2006 crew cab 4x4.
