Default AC Recirculation stopped working

I have a 2004 Super Crew XLT. I recently noticed a couple of weeks ago that my AC recirculation is no longer functioning. The light will turn on when I press the recirc button, and it will turn on when I put the AC on max, but the blower does not kick on to higher speed like it would normally. I also notice that exhaust fumes are getting drawn in. I cannot find any source of information on how to troubleshoot this issue. From reading about newer models having a similar issue, it could be the recirculation door actuator or the door could be broken.

I found a 2010 semi write-up of someone experiencing the same issue, but I am not sure if it would be the same procedure or same parts for my 2004.

Does anyone know of a source covering this problem?

Thank you in advance.

Blend door actuator.

I am not certain but, I dont think it turns up higher when recirculation is on, it's just drawing air from inside the cabin instead of from outside and it blows harder as a result of this somehow.

I always thoughtthere increase in air flow was attributed to the air source and how it circulates rather than there being an increase in blower speed attributed to the electrical selection for the mode......if that make any sense.

I do know the blend door actuator controls the recirculation of air from inside or outside the cabin and they are known to fail. Iv installed 2 of them in trucks like ours. Fortunately, mine still functions and I haven't had to replace it on my personal truck.

According to what I learned about newer models, there are three actuators. One on the driver's side that blends the defrost, instrument panel, and floor vents. One behind the radio that blends hot and cold. And, one on the passenger side that switches from outside air and recirculate.

I'm not sure if this is the case with '04-'08 models.

Blend door actuator.
The blend door actuator has nothing to do with the recirculation function.

The is correct.
I do know the blend door actuator controls the recirculation of air from inside or outside the cabin and they are known to fail.
The blend door actuator controls airflow through or around the heater core.
And, one on the passenger side that switches from outside air and recirculate.
Yeah, that's the one that isn't working on your truck. It's an electrically operated door actuator. You'll need to actually stick your head in there to see if it is trying to do anything when you switch the recirc function on and off. Report your observations if you need further diagnostic help.

I opened the glove box and stuck my head in there, and nothing happens when I press the recirc on or off. The door is just hanging there. It is not closed in either position. It is not intended to be that way, blending, right? I wedged a piece of wood to keep the door closed to recirculate. It does prevent the outside fumes from getting drawn in, but the blower doesn't increase intensity like it would when recirc is working normally.
