Default Ac clutch not working.

Ok, was on vacation and my AC stopped..
Came home, went to a junk yard, got a good compressor.. Tested the high line to make sure it held a charge before I took it..
I hooked up the vacuum pump and would only go to 20 below zero.. So I replaced the high and low. Lines... Still nothing... Won't vacuum all. The way down.. Also the clutch won't engage.. So, I can't run the leak detection until. I figure out why the pump is not working.. Checked the fuses, everything is good, and all electrical lines are plugged right..
I know some of y'all are smarter than me, but I'm stumped. Any suggestions.. P. S I work during the day so I won't check this till. After work

If it won't pull below 20 inches you either have a leak or the gauge is not accurate or the vacuum pump is weak.

you can use pressurized air and soapy water to look for leaks instead of dye as an option then pull vacuum again after fixing any leaks.
Then again if you can pressurize it to say 90psi and it holds for several hours that is probably sufficient to say there are no leaks.

Once you are ready to actually charge the system the pressure in the first can is usually suffice to close the low pressure switch and allow the compressor to kick on.

I looked this afternoon... Apparently I don't have a relay fuse in the fuse box.. I'll get one when I get off tonight

Maybe someone thought it was a catalytic converter and stole it.
