Totally agree. I try to avoid the larger big name shops and if at all possible I support the local mom & pop shops trying to make a living. For me it's always paid off. I get honest advice/recommendations and a very fair price for the service. I need to take mine in for an AC check as well but will have to wait a bit.

I haven't taken my truck back to the stealership yet. Been riding the bike almost every day. Lol. Might as well get a few miles out of her before I sell it.

Very well put. These are the guys that typically care. Now of course there are some bad ones out there. But for the most part they are great. I will keep going back there for work as his prices were very fair and his work was great.

Just to update my AC is still working fantastic. I wish I would have taken before and after temp readings.

Just to give you fellas an update:

My AC is working awesome! Temps were 100 with 118Heat index again this last 2 weeks and it is still freezing me out. I wish I would have done this last summer. I took a buddy to lunch the other day and he even stated that my AC was really cold and worked great.

He is now going to get his 10 year old trucks checked as well.

I had mine fixed but it still doesn't do very well if the truck gets really hot. It's a black truck, so if I leave it out in the sun it can get pretty hot inside. Unless I find a spot in the shade the AC is useless. I had to leave it out in the sun yesterday and it took the AC about an hour on the road to catch up and cool down the cab.

Now that warmer temps are hitting us, I just wanted to provide an update on my thread here.

My AC in my truck is working awesome still. Temps have hit the 80's a few days and I used the AC just to verify it was working still. Worked great.

There are a few issues that can cause your "non leaking, fully charged of freon" A/C unit to still not be real cold; one is sitting in traffic, idling. The A/C condensor sits in front of the radiator, and requires cool air to flow through it to be at its best efficency. With a standard clutch fan, it simply cannot "draw" enough air through the A/C condensor for it to be efficient at idle. This is why Ford and others have finally gone to an e-fan setup; they spin higher at idle, drawing more air through.

To those who are experiencing un-efficient A/C, especially during idle conditions: check that you have no blockage in the front grille area. Mounting large LED lights, spotlights, or anything in the front grille area is going to block off space normally used to allow airflow through the A/C condensor/radiator by the clutch fan.

Check that there is no buildup of bugs on the fins. And be CAREFULL when cleaning!!! You do not want to break the fins from the tubing; this will create a dead spot.

Once in awhile, I'll use a pocket knife, and straighten any bent fins on the A/C condensor area (rocks or large bugs can bend them); lots of this can reduce air flow.

oh and spray water on the condenser it'll clean it even better and also unbend the fins and get bugs out and all that fun stuff.
