Default ABS Issue

I'm having an intermittent ABS issue with my '04 FX4, and I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem.

Since last fall, occasionally the ABS idiot light will come on, and when it's on the system is disabled (as I've learned now that it's snow and ice season in MN). Sometimes it will stay on for a day or two, or it will go out and function normally once the truck is started. The light can be off while driving and then come on with no provocation, and will sometimes go back off while driving.

Any ideas on what to check? Are there known problems with the ABS systems on these trucks?

Really kind of a pisser since it's only got 33,000 miles on it....

I cant help with your problem but my 04 has been on for the last 5,000 miles it code says rear speed sensor but there was 85 worthless bucks spent. My family member with a garage thinks it's a bad wire. Let us know what you find out.

start with the cheapest fix.

i would try to clean the sensor at the rotor first, to see if thats the problem.

Times two. Get a can of brake caliper cleaner at your auto store. Make sure it's the kind that evaporates, and leaves no residue. Spray the sensors.

A broken wire is also a good idea to check for, as all the salt, snow, and crud you guys are experiencing could easily break off a connector or wire.
