I have a loud whine coming from the B6 code 9.75" 3.73 rear diff in my 08 F150. car-part.com shows that 04-06 does not interchange with the 07-08 B6 code diff. The local junkyard has a nice diff from an 04 and all of the 07-08 units at other yards are over double the price, so I want the 04 if it will indeed work. I unfortunately don't have them side by side to compare but I do know that the leaf mount to mount distance is the same. Does anyone know if the 04 diff will work for me and what differences I might run into?

Be aware that the axle code only defines the ratio and whether or not it's limited slip. The rear axle might be either an 8.8 or a 9.75 depending on various equipment/towing option packages. If the truck has (for example) a 3.73 with LS, the axle code will be B6 regardless of which axle assy is installed.
