Default 89 Octane

I bumped to mid grade gas on my 400 mile round trip I'm going on. Is it worth it? I'm going 80 cruise the whole way almost. My last fill up was mainly city and I got 13.8 mpg. Last trip I took I got 17.3 it was like 90% hwy but only about 180 miles. What ya think?

I've been trying to stick with no ethanol and that seems to help the mpg's and some stations still have the 87 with no ethanol I always try to get that

89 is just a blend of 87 and 93 or 91 depending on your region... I would just go for 93, especially if your running a tow or performance tune on an edge or a SCT. I've definitely had good results on highway trips with my Volant CAI, and edge CS tow tune.... About 18.5 to 20 mpg steady on traffic free roads at about 64-62 mph while staying under 2,000 RPMs. With the instant MPG feature on the edge, it's real easy to keep your foot in check.
To answer your question, yes, it's definitely worth it.

If you do the math, it's damned near a wash figuring a 2 mpg difference between 87 and 91.

There's a big price difference in "Ethanol Free gas" where I live in FL. Currently $3.29 for 87 octane but the ethanol free was $3.96...OUCH! Only a few stations have it around here.

I agree, ethanol free is the way to go. But in my region, only 93 is ethanol free. I know the price diff doesn't make up for it, but the truck runs so much better! And I have a flex fuel engine. I can't imagine what it would run like on E-85:
