Default 87 vs 89 octane

I have an 06 f150 5.4L. I have the XCal2 with tunes from Troyer. Currently I am running the 87 tune as gas prices in the Carolinas are nuts. I was just wondering if there would be any advantages in using 89 with the 87 tune.

Default octane

just depends how your tune is set. if you have your truck tuned for 87..then that's the only thing you should put in. my brother has a 08 GT tuned for 93 octane and put an octane booster and that messed up the spark plugs and had to have his car worked on.

but really if you think about it... if there's only 30 cents difference between 93 octane and 87... and your tank is about 26 gallons (that's what mine is)...that's less than $8 difference.

I only put 93 shell gas in my truck. my truck likes 93 best.
