Nope, but it is meteorology... It's much too cold to drive with the windows down in the winter here in New England. We don't have the 80 degree winters like you folks do.

Hey patrol, I do have a couple questions for you. One: how do you determine that tint is too dark? Is it all on visual inspection or do you have a tool in your cruiser to check (I’ve heard of light spectrum readers or something). Is that a ticket you give after pulling someone over for something else and they are just being a d*ck to you?
Two: thoughts on HID’s in the factory housing? Do you pull people over for glairing headlights? Or is that an add on ticket for a guy being a smart *****? I’ve always found "yes sir, no sir" seem to keep me out of trouble.
Sorry to thread jack but I have really been wanting to ask an actual law enforcement professional about these things.

I had it on a car before. Sucks to have your window down when its freezing ***** out but it is great otherwise.

No disrespect to Patrol, but I think tint laws are bs. I feel those who enforce the law should have to abide by those same laws. Yet every other cop car I see has 5% tint.

if you actually check your states tint laws anything under 30% is illegal...well here it is anyway. Each state is different. Just because they dont stop you doesnt mean its legal. Here in PA they will hand a razor blade and make you take it off. If you refuse they will tow it and you will be walking home, with a storage fee per day it has been impounded. Happened the other day to my buddy he called me for a ride because they impounded his car.

I'm talking about when you get pulled over... if you get pulled over, just roll all of your windows down.

PS: I love having my windows down in the winter

x2. Around here they really don't care. I've been pulled over and the officer didn't say anything about my tint or expired tag, lol. My buddy has a 350Z with 5% all around and has been pulled over multiple times and no mention of tint.

officers discretion plays a big part in if you get a ticket or not. yes, most cops will have a meter the put on the window that reads the light transferance and gives a % tint readout.

if the cop just puts a flashlight to it and gives ya a ticket, take it to court, will be thrown out.

yes it is legal for them to pull you over if they think your tint is to dark

tint laws are in place to protect officers. pull a guy over in the dead of night and you cant see what they are doin in the car since the tints to dark? will make a cop very, very nervous and i bet my bottom dollar he will have his gun out of his holster when he approaches the car.

most of the time you can get out of the ticket if you peel the tint off right there in front of the cop though.

Yeah but here's what I don't get. Here in ga the front has to be 35% but we're allowed to spray paint the back windows if we want. If i was a cop I would want to be able to see through the back window when I had someone pulled over at night and when you pull someone over 99% of the time the persons window is down. Also I think if citizens have to obey the law then police should to because I see way to many cop cars with super dark tint. And most of the time around here the cops are cool if you just respect them.
